MAP CHECK, Week 28

Map Check: a deliberate pause where you reflect on where you've come from -- and to plan the route ahead. Map Check will do exactly that by amplifying points and data from Azimuth Check, and provide you some things to cook on as you head into the week.

To live life on the offense, you need to have a strategy -- otherwise, you're on the defense and reacting as life happens... so let's get started!

Here's your weekly Azimuth Check recap - to watch the video:

Weekly Azimuth Check

I’ve always been fascinated with asking questions. Sometimes I’ll ask one to get someone to stop and think - other times, it’s to get an answer that’ll hopefully help me understand an issue from a different perspective. Even if I disagree with someone, the simple act of trying to see the world through their eyes can be a meaningful journey. This week, focus less on disagreement and more on understanding. Take the time to see issues from multiple angles, and be open to the fact that you may not have all the answers.

MAP CHECK, Week 28

Tim Ferriss is an American entrepreneur, investor, author, and lifestyle guru. If you listen to his podcast, you know Tim's a master at asking questions. In this episode, Tim interviews author and journalist Cal Fussman, a writer-at-large for Esquire and widely known as one of the master interviewers of our time. In this episode, Tim holds his own as an interviewer, and I really enjoy how Cal takes questions and forms the answers into remarkable stories.

After nearly 50 podcast episodes, I've taken away one major lesson -- everyone has an amazing story, but it takes the right person at the right time to extract it. I have also learned from years of working on my active listening skills that some people just want to be heard, whether it's to express their joy or their anger.

If I can be that person in that right moment for someone, I know we will both be better for it. Listening truly is an investment in others, and if there's one point that is ripe for you to build trust with someone, it's in the moment of listening to understand, listening acknowledge, and most of all, listening without judgement.

I’m proud of all the episodes of Always in Pursuit. When I think about the podcast being the vehicle to tell a story, there is one that stands out -- episode 22 featuring Dr. Rio Kazmi. Such an moving story that captivated me from the first sentence. If you know of compelling stories I should be telling on AIP, reach out to me and let me know!
